Located in central Victoria, the Widgiwah project is the establishment of new plantings to restore the land through environmental plantings and re-establish habitat for the critically endangered Eastern Rock Wallabies.
Across Widgiwah, 10% of the population of wallabies were translocated to this site, after being displaced from their habitat by the devastating 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.
MAG sourced an appropriate parcel of land conducive to the environmental plantings’ method with suitable habitat for the Rock Wallaby.
A carbon project was registered to start the process of creating new habitat. As a result, this property has mutually beneficial biodiversity and economic outcomes from the carbon planting. With plantings occurring in 2020 and 2021, the project will generate high-integrity ACCUs from a robust methodology and provides a new benchmark for future project co-benefit possibilities.
